random thought thursday

i have turned into one of those embarrassing moms. yesterday we were leaving the house and at the bottom of our stairs there was a lit cigarette, full-size, just sitting on the banister. noah reached up to grab it and i freaked out. i knocked on the door downstairs (the lady who bought it is having a lot of work done on it before she moves in) and asked the workers whose it was. a young guy, who looked sort of embarrassed, said that it was his.
my reasons for being upset were twofold:
1) my kid almost grabbed it, and could have possibly burned himself and
2) what if it fell off and started our condos on fire?
not to mention the second-hand smoke from a cigarette that wasn't even being smoked.
thank goodness my kids aren't old enough to be embarrassed by me yet.

isaac is watching "yo, gabba gabba" right now, and guess what song is on?
"hey, won't somebody come and play with me?" from the "i'm a mormon" books from the 1980s. how in the world did they find that song for a mainstream show?

******

check out this article. i'm inclined to think it's an april fool's joke, but you never know.

******

does anyone have a good make-up remover remedy?
noah dumped mine all down the sink, but continues to find my eyeliner and draw all over his face and head with it.
nothing is safe in my house, i tell you.
and eyeliner does NOT come off easily.

the day i cleaned my oven, i cooked my beef tamale casserole and it bubbled over.

i'm running a 5k on april 26th with my friend andrea.
somehow i hurt my back yesterday though and now i can hardly move.
training for a 5k in two week? totally doable.
i hope.

i keep finding isaac sucking on noah's binks.
what's the deal with that?
he's almost 4 and hasn't had a bink in over a year now.
it's gross, and weird, and i don't know how to make him stop.

My question is how did you get Isaac to stop sucking on his own binky the first time? I really need to break Beth of her binky once and for all (she only gets it when she's sleeping, but still) and I don't know how to do it. She is such a good sleeper and I am so afraid to mess with her, but its got to go...any help?

Way to go with the 5k. I totally need to start running. I plan to do the triathlon this year, but running in the bane of my existence.

Everything I read says that baby oil, baby shampoo, milk or plain yogurt using a cotton ball is supposed to take makeup off safely and without harming the face!

Can I run the 5K with you guys? Is it too late to sign up?

no christina, it's not too late! fun!

diane, i waited until isaac was 3. we talked for a year about when he was 3, "no more binky, no more diapers". it was still hard, but not as big of a deal since he was older and knew it was coming. i actually had isaac throw them away himself--at first he thought it was funny but when he realized i wasn't going to let him reach in and take them back out, he got a little sad. but after a few days he stopped asking for it. it was a rough couple of nights though!

Emily, any clue on those songs if they also had the April fools song, a few about the Holiday and Seasons? My sister and I were just talking about those songs (If you know what I'm talking about). We used to go around the house and sing those over and over again and were wondering what the heck they were....is any of this make sense?

the "i'm a mormon" songs? is that what you're talking about?

no, i don't remember seasons or holiday songs, just songs about being a mormon "got a dime in my pocket" about paying tithing, "my dad's the greatest guy" about good dads, "hey everybody it's family night" you get the idea.

I think the bink thing is normal, Carly still tries to suck on Wesley's bottle and she's five! He'll probably out grow it.

Is that article for real? And that totally stinks about your oven--that's always how it goes!

that song might not be originally for the i'm a mormon book, they might have taken it and used it

That article is kinda funny... never would have guessed! I'm slightly skeptical about it too...
The workers doing our sheetrock would smoke right outside my door, and then he stuck the cigarette butt into the siding!!!!! What a loser... he got a mouthful from John the next day. What is up with these remodel guys?!

I just read on KSL.com that the article is a hoax....April Fools!

Just keep it up, Emily--soon you'll be the one making $4K a month from your blog! :P lol! Jolene, you're welcome. I also really love the Standin' Tall series in the Brite link above, they're just great stories to put the kids to bed with. :)
