spring cleaning.

it's been a busy week.
once march 20th hit, i was ready to deep clean my house.
it really needed it.
so i created a chart, to make things a little easier: i know, i'm a total nerd, what can i say? but it's helped.
this way i can do one or two things a day, not feel overwhelmed, and everything gets done in a week.
it's a beautiful thing.

this chart actually has a few extra things, just things i needed to get done or things that were on my list for that day, so i wouldn't forget anything. it's also missing a few things, like floors and baseboards. but those things i've also been doing one at a time, whichever room i'm in cleaning that day, i've been adding floors and baseboards, after which i spray for bugs. we got some pretty big spiders in here last fall and i cannot deal with that, so i'm spraying every nook and cranny this spring.

saturday dave put together our new shelf (toy organizer) for isaac's closet, and i can't tell you what a difference it has made. every toy has a place, in his closet, and not in the family room. things feel much less cluttered around here now. i combined clothes and baby toys into bins so that none of them are half-empty anymore, and they are stacked in noah's closet for easy access.

cleaning the fridge was a huge job. i had no idea how disgusting i was, but believe me, it was bad. i took every single thing out, took all the shelves and drawers out, pine-sol'd all of it, and re-organized everything. it looks (and smells!) so nice now. sometimes i just open the fridge to look at it.

this morning i also went to a friend's house and we made beef tamale casserole (recipe to come, it looks yummy and i can't wait to try it). we made 10 of them so we could all bake one tonight and then freeze one for later. it has been such a productive week and i have felt so good about myself for getting so much done (and not feeling completely overwhelmed). huge props to dave for taking the boys out every night this week so i could also get my google work done without feeling like a total schmuck. and isaac has been so good to let me clean during noah's naps instead of playing with him. i can't wait for this week to be over and for my house to be totally clean.

Sweet! Nothing wrong with being organized. It makes life easier for me that way!
After the missionaries moved I had someone come in and clean and boy did it need it. Now I just have to keep it up. Thanks for the recipe also!

that's awesome. my spring cleaning week is in 2 weeks when i have a whole week home without work--I can't wait. I am a total list/chart person so I may have to copy yours. Better yet--can you email it to me?

Wow! I'm impressed with your productivity woman!

However, you are in BIG TROUBLE with me. Why oh why did you introduce me to Boden? I had never heard of it before your blog! I was perfectly happy not knowing about those adorable, overpriced clothes!

debbie, you can blame it on ellen. she showed me her miniboden catalog (overpriced kids clothes) and it spiraled out of control from there.

jess, it's on its way!

peggy, it's my DREAM to have someone come clean my house for me. maybe when i win the lottery. by the way, are those funeral potatoes?

great work, but before you know it you'll have to do it all over again!

i know. while i focus on one room the rest of the house becomes a total disaster. luckily, with the toys organized, it takes much less time to clean up!

I'll PAY you to do the same at our house. The kids can play in the backyard. :)

I know I would love to have someone come in once a week and clean and do laundry and all that. I get to have someone in about every six months and that's great! Not quite funeral potates but close. The recipe I have calls for frozen hashbrowns.

Em,
You are a cleaning machine! And your little chart makes me want to mess up my house just so I can copy your chart and clean it all over! And guess what... I'm gonna get a nanny that will clean and occasionally cook! Deep down... I'm SO excited!

Wow, when everything gets finished at my house, you'll have to help my make a good list. Right now it's as if a bomb went off in EVERY room. You are my inspiration right now!!! :-)
