what i believe: families are eternal

I got married when I was young (21). Some people may think that's too young, and that our marriage won't last. But I love my husband more today than I did the day we got married, and the thought of ever being parted from him breaks my heart. He's a part of me now and if he weren't around I don't know what I would do. I want to be with him forever.

If you have kids, you know how frustrating life can be sometimes with the little ones around. But you also know a love that people who don't have kids will never know. I love my kids more than anything, and I would do anything for them. I want to know my kids forever, and I want to be with them forever.

I have 5 brothers and sisters and two amazing parents. I love my sisters and brothers-in-law. I love their kids. I love my cousins and aunts and uncles. I love my family. I love my husband's family. I want to be with them all in heaven after I die. All of my grandparents have passed away but I love them all. I want to see them again. I want to meet my great-grandparents that left a legacy of faith for their posterity to follow.

I believe that families are forever.

I believe that God sent us here in families for a reason. Families are special and families are eternal: "central to the Creator's plan" (The Family: A Proclamation to the World). I believe a kind and just God wouldn't separate a husband and wife and their children who love each other just because their physical bodies died.

In our church we build temples. Temples are sacred places for us, places you can only enter into if you follow the teachings of our church religiously and live as clean a life as you can. In these temples, we are married not "until death do you part" but "for time and all eternity." We call it being sealed together. A man and wife are sealed in marriage and any children they have are sealed to them. That means if we live righteously on the earth, when we die, we will be together again. Parents who lose children on this earth will see them again. My grandparents were sealed, and so their children were sealed to them, and so I'm sealed to them. It goes on forever, and we can be together forever. I love this part of our church. I love that we get a chance to be eternal families.

thanks Em. I read that comment from Elder Ballard and have been trying to think of ways to weave his advice into my blog too. That was actually the thought behind my "are you comfortable" blog. I was thinking that I have to have faith and know that Christ will take care of my family in ways that I just can't.

Wow, you are an inspiration. I hadn't heard about what Elder Ballard said...

First of all, this is my first visit to your blog...so, hello there. :) I think that you did a great job not only presenting what you believe but sharing your testimony of families. I'll look forward to your Sunday installments from now on to see what you discuss next.

Love your testimony. I too am thankful for the blessings of eternal marriage and eternal families. My blog today was on being a witness... way to be a great witness Emily!

Love this series. I was actually thinking of doing something similar after hearing constantly about Mitt Romney being a Mormon and that nasty Huckabee guy always trying to trip him up. Great idea!

Emily,

I'm so proud of you. What a great example to all of us of what we can do to share our testimonies and feelings with others. A side note - I am so grateful for you, that you love my son so very much.
