Noah's SIXTH day of SIXTH Grade!

Noah started MIDDLE SCHOOL this year. Those words just send a shock through my system. Little Noah. In middle school. I've stressed about the uniform aspect of middle school since we moved here, and it doesn't seem to be a problem luckily. I ordered about $500 worth of clothes for him, every size and style imaginable, and let him choose what felt best. I'll send the rest back this week and order more of the ones he likes. His polos are a little big so he kind of looks like a vato but whatever. He's wearing it.

I went with Noah and Jonas to the jumpstart day on Tuesday, August 7th. We met all of his teachers except for Language Arts (they still don't have one). Happily, his friend Griffin (Zoe's best friend Rozlyn's brother) is in all 6 of his classes! So I walked and talked with his mom Katy the whole time and it was awesome. Noah has a hard schedule. He's in all the advanced classes (called GATE) so he has Advanced Math--they do 6th and 7th grade math in one year, then 8th grade math in 7th grade and Algebra I in 8th grade--, science, advanced Language Arts, World History, Humanities, and STEM. His Math and STEM teacher are the same, Mr. Pande, and he's really cool, he used to play basketball with Dave at the church when they played years ago. They'll learn robotics this year, and he does a financial education in his class by "paying" the students. Everyone has to have a job, they all have to pay rent on their desks and can eventually earn enough to "buy" their desk. They can take out loans but have to pay interest, the whole thing is really cool. I really like him. Noah's science teacher has a master's in biology and spent the past 10 years working and living in Africa so she's cool too. I think he's going to have a good year.

The first week of school Dave had 2-a-day football practices so he took the whole week off of work. In the mornings that first week he took Zoe to school and I took Isaac and Noah. Noah starts at 8:25 and Isaac at 8:30 so I dropped Noah first. Isaac was in a hurry the first day so I dropped Noah and drove away and just bawled. He looked so nervous, and I didn't see anyone he knew when I dropped him out front so I was afraid he wasn't going to know where to go or what to do, even with the jump start the day before. He said afterward that he started panicking but then his friend Max found him and it was okay. After a few days he and his friends worked out a meeting place so they could find each other, thankfully.

Noah got his locker and has it all figured out already. Most of his classes are on the 2nd floor but the other 6th graders are only on the first floor, so he doesn't get to go to his locker very often. After school on the first Friday he was invited to his friend Caleb's house. I told him I would pick him up and drive him there because Caleb rides his bike home. I got to the school a little late and was way down the street in the pickup line and he didn't see me so he panicked. By the time I got up to the school he wasn't there. I drove around the neighborhood a bit thinking he might have walked when the school called and said he was in the office. Poor kid was so upset. I tried to drop him at Caleb's house but he couldn't stop crying so we just went home. I felt so bad. Starting a new school can be so overwhelming. He seems to be doing just fine now and comes home happy every day. I'm carpooling with my friend Adriana, her daughter Melissa is also in 6th grade. She picks them up MWF and I do T/TH. She takes Noah to her house and I go pick him up when I have a chance. I did 6 round trips from my house to the hospital neighborhood yesterday (four for school, two for mutual) which is 3 hours in the car. It's not my favorite thing. But I don't know how to make it different just yet. I'm sure we'll work out the kinks as the year goes on. At least I hope so!
