- umbrellas - i have a thing for cute umbrellas. i always have to look at the fun umbrellas if a store has them (gap, anthropologie, eddie bauer) and i always want to buy one...but guess what? i don't even own one umbrella. i guess it doesn't rain enough here to justify the purchase (although the last few weeks would have been reason enough).
- up - the first fifteen minutes of this movie are some of the best i've ever seen. i know it's animated, and the rest of the movie isn't my favorite, but the beginning of this movie had me sobbing. i blogged about how it changed my perspective on life (seriously) and i am still grateful for the adventure my life has been so far.
- utah - i moved to utah when i was 18 to go to college. i never expected to stay after i graduated...i just figured people go to college, graduate, and then move wherever they get a job. well, dave got a job in salt lake, and i had a job in south jordan, so we stayed, and i have now lived here for 12 years. my parents retired and moved here, my sister and her husband moved here for residency (and then left us for texas), my brother moved here after graduating law school, my other brother moved here after an east coast adventure, my sister moved south so her husband could teach in a school he wanted; it seems like utah is the place, at least for now. there are things i don't love about it (the 9 month winters, the inversions, the crazy drivers), but there is lots to love:
- i love the beauty of this state. from the lush greens (in spring) up north to the amazing red rock down south to the hills and valleys and enormous mountains and lakes, i think this might be one of the most beautiful states in the country. the scenery in provo canyon could rival any european countryside.
- i love the people. some of the best, kindest, most service-oriented people i will ever know live here, and i'm grateful to know them.
- i love that there are 13 temples, which makes it easy to get to the temple often.
- i love that it's easy to get around because of the grid system.
- i love that even though it's hot in the summer, the nights cool off to make it bearable.
- i love that dave and i hiked to delicate arch in moab when i was 7 months pregnant with isaac.
- i love that i learned to ski at sundance.
- i love to shop in park city. i love to shop in provo and murray and salt lake, for that matter.
- i love that it's a place most of my friends visit at some point, so that i don't have to travel to see them. :)
- i love that the 24th of july is a holiday.
- i love that utah was founded by mormons because of religious persecution and that it was mostly a place of peace and protection for those early members.
- i love that i have a lot of family here.

LOVED "Up"! And also dripped big tears down my cheeks in those first minutes.
Also, after one week between me and the longest/hardest flight of my life with two kids, one in my lap, three hundred animal crackers, and more gummy bears than should be allowed, I'm back in love with Utah again. Add Cafe Rio to the list, and I'll be there again any time. Only when little Miss somebody is two and can sit (or NOT sit!) in her OWN seat!
Utah is great! Strange but great!
Okay... on UP- I'm sure grandma is gonna read this and go "Oh geeze!" Anyway, when I very first saw it (i saw it in theatres 3 times) The very first time, I saw it with my friend brittany and Grandma L. The beginning made me cry and cry because i kept thinking of the cute old lady as grandma. And then she died...

i think i can remember the first 15 minutes of UP. i might have to go remind myself though.
utah, a place i have never been, but will most likely plan a trip to for 2011! ...hint, hint! :)
as for the people, i could probably guess that the people are so nice because majority are Mormon. i've said it in the past, but every single Mormon person i have ever meet, is just super cool.
I cried through the first 15 of Up too. So touching and sweet.
I will admit I have a love/hate going with Utah. Totally born and raised here...would LOVE to live somewhere else...but love how much there is to do here. Plus, my family is all here and it would be kinda tough to be away.
And what is it about cute umbrellas that make you crave a rainy day??
i can echo jillo's love/hate relationship with utah. born and raised there (for the most part) plus college, so i do know what i'm talking about. but really happy that family lives there so i can visit rather than live there.
umbrellas and up are fabulous.
