family update
it's been a rough couple of weeks for me, sorry for the absence. i don't really have anything to say, but emilie said i could always just talk about my kids, so here you go.
***
isaac has been going swimming with his second grade class every friday for the past 8 weeks. his last lesson was this past friday and he asked if we would come watch. i decided to go, completely forgetting i was supposed to watch my friend's son that day, leaving her high and dry. whoops! isaac did really well and we had fun watching him. you can see him in the second picture through the hoops with his arms raised. the water at our local pool is FREEZING cold (79*) and they only let one kid in the water at a time, so the kids end up really cold by the end of the lessons, and he's pretty glad to be done.
the hard part about watching swimming lessons is the two kids that don't get to get in the water, even if they desperately want to.

i let noah put his feet in and got busted by the lifeguard.
noah is doing well in preschool. he's finally starting to read a little. i thought having such a late birthday (he'll be 6 when he starts kindergarten) coupled with the fact that he's known all the letters and sounds since he was 2 1/2 that he would be reading already, but his only interest these days is sonic the hedgehog. maybe i should look for sonic books at the library next time i go? he has started saying he can do whatever he wants and doesn't have to listen to me, which can get very frustrating for me, but he is also incredibly sweet at times. i want him to be happy so i try to accommodate him as much as i can. i'm just so tired lately that i mostly give in. awesome parenting, right?
***
zoe is really into saying "shut up" these days and walks around yelling it at anyone who will take offense (mainly noah). she has started saying prayers at mealtimes and it's very sweet, even her screamed "AMEN!" at the end. her hair gets really curly when it's humid and the other day i snapped this photo in an attempt to show off the perfect spirals on the side. i wish her whole head of hair would curl like that! (please ignore the scratched and dirty face and just look at the curls. and her eyes. gorgeous.)
we had a freak spring snowstorm this past weekend and zoe was thrilled, eating snow off the ground along with dirt and rocks. i'm ready for spring!

Oh man I wish we lived closer to you guys. I am positive that Ada and Zoe would be great friends. Hope things start getting better for ya!
Hang in there em! We love you.
Its kindof cool that his school does swim lessons, even if the pool rules are ridiculous. Is it super humid there? I imagined Gallup would be dryer that burque.
It is in the summer, Summer. It rained every single day of the entire month of July. But this time her hair was curly because she was in the bathroom while I took a shower that day. And I am actually way more dried out when I visit Albuquerque than I am here in Gallup, so it must be slightly more humid at least.
Sorry you are having a hard time :-(
Lots of love to you dear Pem.
Thanks guys, I'm fine, promise.
I always love to read about what your kids have been doing, and dang Zoe is so cute!
I love you!
such cute kids you have! crazy to watch zoe grow up in your blog. she's no baby anymore.
if you need a place to escape to you have Denver. i know both myself and Aunt Peg would love to have you. i know it isn't Paris...but i could take you to some really cool places!
oh and on a side note...you totally should have sent some recipes to my cousin Kari! (if you want she's still working on it, so you can still participate)
I love that last photo of Zoe. I agree, swim lessons with 2 who are not in the water is real hard!
April, I actually have the recipes written on the cards she sent, I just completely forgot to send them. Should I send them to you or her?
I wondered if you were having a hard time because you sort of disappeared from your blog around the same time I disappeared from mine. And when steady bloggers disappear I have noticed it usually means they are having a rough time. But I love all your posts and hope you feel back to your old self soon.
That little girl of yours has so much spunk! Eating snow...
My daughter Lydia is a little older than Zoe, but I feel like Zoe is much more advanced - already saying prayers at dinner! What do you do to help her be so full of life and smart?
Thank you! I don't really do anything, I think it's partially her personality and partially having two older brothers. She adores them and wants to do everything she does. Also, we say the prayers and she repeats us, she's not doing it on her own, if that makes you feel better. For instance, she holds her pen/pencil/crayon/marker correctly with no help or coercion from me. Noah's preschool teacher talked to me today (he's 5 1/2) about working hard with him in the next few months before kindergarten to hold his pencil correctly so it's easier for him to write when he starts school full time. Zoe just does what she wants to do. She IS spunky, that's the perfect word to describe her.
Emily!, yes send your recipes to Kari!
