ust before isaac's first birthday he and i took a trip to albuquerque to see my sister alice. while we were there i went to lunch with my friends michelle and renee. during the course of conversation renee said,
"i just hope you're not one of those moms that will break off in the middle of a conversation with an adult to sing songs to her kid."
i was like, "no, never, not me. those moms buuug." while inside i was thinking, "i hope she never sees me interact with my kid."
then i told ellen about the conversation and she said, "you ARE that mom." and she was right. so i don't so much do that anymore, but sadly, things are getting worse. as time goes on and i have more kids, i have become one of those moms who...
- wears pajamas to drop her kid off at school (although not on a regular basis; it's only happened twice. but still, it's happened).
- says words like "britches" and "ragamuffin". i mean, nobody but 90-year-old men use words like that, why would i think it was okay?
- gets spit up on and doesn't change her shirt right away.
- talks baby talk and makes goofy faces to see her baby smile, even in public.
- will use her kid's shirt to wipe his nose in a pinch.
- wears sweats and a pony-tail every day. well, not so much the ponytail anymore. i started this draft before i went insane.
(sorry about the eyes-closed picture, dave. the other one was REALLY bad of me, and this is my blog after all. also, this is us at the tulip festival this weekend. and there are a grand total of THREE tulips in the picture, where normally there should be hundreds. so disappointing.)
what kind of mom are you?

i say ragamuffin ALL the time! and i wear my pjs until noon (or 2pm, or 4pm) most days too!
I remember wearing sweats a lot around march (you know that time between when your regular clothes are too small for your enlarging belly and your maternity clothes are still packed away in storage?) and so, I think it's okay to go through phases like that occasionally. (:
One thing that I probably should stop doing is waiting until the day is literally half over before I get in the shower. Today, I didn't have anywhere to be so I just hung around in my pjs and work out clothes until after Jack was down for a nap. Got tired so I layed down for a few winks. Didn't get in the shower until 3pm!!! (: That's hilarious I know, but sometimes it just has to be done. (:
I'm one of those moms that yells, "CAN'T YOU SEE I'M ON THE PHONE? WHAT, ARE YOU BLIND?!" But I call my daughter Boo-Boo, her nickname from the baby days (now she's 14) so it all balances out.
This was a great post :o) Made me smile...
Used my OWN skirt once to wipe a nose.
Pretty much have ONLY friends now who break off in the middle of most phone (and in person) conversations to "manage" some-little-one. Who else would want to call me?
Wouldn't have it any other way.
Best friends of my life!
I use those words, too. Seriously, your hair is so way cute. I really think short hair suits you!
i wear pjs to take the kids to school EVERY day, who cares
ditto
dave is definitely super lucky! aren't all of those habits what make a mom a true mom?!
You look absolutely great Emily! I love your hair! I think we are very similar in our "momminess" for sure. I have done/do all of the same things you do. :) There's power in numbers right?
Yep, can't think of a single time this school year that I dropped Hannah and Charlie off in actual clothes. And I use the term clothes very loosly. Clothes=sweats that are still a little too nice to sleep in. Ugh. What has happened to me?
