tell me your diaper bag secrets.

i have probably asked this before, and really it's not so much a question as a plea: i am desperate. i told dave when we found out that noah was a boy that we didn't need to buy anything new, if only i could have a great diaper bag. i needed a diaper bag. i never got one. i just cannot find one i like--cute on the outside (not pink and white stripes or brown and blue dots), functional on the inside, not four thousand dollars. is that really too much to ask? i didn't think so. so tell me, savvy shopper moms, what kind of diaper bag do you have? do you love it?

The one thing that was SO nice in our second diaper bag, was the fact that there was NO ZIPPER! It's so nice to have a flap that folds over and velcros (sp?) shut. Some people don't like velcro, but it's so nice to grab the bag and go, not having to worry about zipping the top, cause honestly, how often do you really zip it up?
Side pockets for bottles are also nice.
I can't remember the brand, but our diaper bag was about $60, and still in good enough condition to use for next baby.
I'm weird. I hate purses and diaper bags aren't much better. So I carry a backpack.
Hobo bag at Nordstrom Rack? That's what I did for Kate and it worked well enough. I liked the exterior and it lasted throughout her and Anna, and I could still carry it around if needs be and not feel goofy.
I HATE diaper bags, it's just more junk to carry around. I just use a larger purse. Along with all MY junk, I've got the diapering neccessities and an extra outfit, and hopefully a little toy for Sasha. Though not always the toy - it has a way of wandering away. Oh, and the purse was on clearance at Kohl's - maybe $15????

I got a skip hop duo diaper bag for Christmas. I haven't actually started using it, but so far I think I'm going to like it. Its fairly small on the inside, so if you have a ton to carry around the bigger version by skip hop might be better. It has large pockets outside including easily accesible zipper pockets on top for my stuff. Its magnetic closure throughout. And it comes with these nifty stroller straps that make it perfect to attach to the stroller and still be able to get to everything...I shopped around a bit and this is what I liked best in the reasonable price category.
I am the same way, picky picky when it come to diaper bags, but too poor to get what I want. I finally found one at Target that was kinda cute, red canvas with black handles. It doubled as a purse and wasn't too embarrassing to carry around. It did have the stroller straps that Diane mentioned and they were FABU! I think they were my favorite part.

It's still pricey (for me) but it comes highly rated, has a detachable clutch (so you don't have to switch out stuff to a normal purse all the time) and is big and cute. And it hooks onto the stroller as well. It's now way cheaper than it was when I first saw it, so I'm kinda tempted...if you get it, I'll be happily jealous. :)
LOVE my Kate spade tote. I've used it to carry on airplanes even when I'm not taking kids. It was an investment, but cost per use is now pennies after four years! Numerous uses per day. The inside is plasticky so it wipes out well. They get really cute ones sometimes on babysteals.com ... It's an awesome website! If u haven't looked they get a new deal every day and it's usually at least 50% off the normal price and they have stuff from diaper bags, clothes, blankets, to maternity clothes ;) I got my diaper bags from BabyStyle and loved them but they went out of business last year ... U could always look on eBay though for them!
my answer: don't have a diaper bag. bay a large purse that is cute and doesn't scream 'mom'. I have a Kate Spade diaper bag I used for a few months with Jack (but I do love the changing pad it came with). with Kate, I just use a large purse.
i always used a laptop purse/carrier? They are usually super cute and have 3 compartments. I give myself one side and put wipes and a few diapers in the other. They have them everyone and usually they are pretty cheap :)
