your questions, answered - part 2

  • are your boys excited?we didn't tell them until last week. isaac has been begging for a baby for so long that i knew the second we told him, the entire world would know in a matter of minutes. so i waited, but i'm sure they knew something was off, what with all the grouchiness and puking. we finally told them last monday night at family home evening (9/21/09). dave talked about when abraham and sariah found out out that they were going to be getting isaac. then i gave each of the boys one of their baby blankets with a baby picture of themselves. then i showed them a brand new baby blanket with an ultrasound picture. they were pretty cute and excited about it, but forgot about 20 seconds later.
  • how did you tell dave?nothing special. he walked in from work and i told him to go look in my bathroom drawer, where he found a positive pregnancy test. sorry to be boring.
  • why did you keep it a secret for so long?
i don't really know. i know lots of people due right around the same time as me who told right away. i think there are some positives with that, mainly in that you don't have to suffer alone. i think part of my rationale was normal; most people don't tell 'til after the first trimester simply because miscarriages are common. another was that i've never kept it a secret. i've always told everybody right away. then 8 months later people are going, "you're still pregnant?" pregnancy is long enough when you only know for a few months. but knowing for all 10 (yeah, it's 10 months, not 9)? that makes it super long. i'll admit, i feel really good about keeping it (mostly) to myself for this long. i don't know why, but there is an odd sense of satisfaction in it for me. although sometimes i think i'm an idiot for not telling everyone and getting some help now and then. it's been a rough couple of months.
  • is that why you sold your car?
kinda. we'll definitely need a minivan now (yahoo!) but also, we didn't really want to re-register it (expired in august) if we're going to have to do it again with a new car. and also because it's so much money in utah (over $200 each year!) and we also needed to save some money for this kid. we're saving a lot just on gas, but when you take off car payment and insurance, we're saving a bundle.
  • is that why you got bunk beds?
kinda again. noah was 3 and still in a crib, so it really was time for a bed. rather than buy a new bed for his room, we figured we might as well move the boys in together so we could keep the other room free--i know some people like to sleep with their baby in their bedroom. i am NOT one of those people. we did that with noah for 9 months and those were quite possibly the worst 9 months of my life.
  • did you tell your families right away?
yes and no. i was at my mom's house the day after i found out, working on some things for girls camp. i burst into tears over something trivial and continued to cry uncontrollably. in fairness, i was stressed, but it was a little beyond stress, so i had to explain myself--so my mom and sister alice were the first to know, besides dave. i slowly told my sisters and then brothers. dave waited to tell his family because his youngest brother scott and his wife lindsay were having their first baby and he didn't want to steal their thunder. i told him at 16 weeks that he had to tell his parents or they were going to find out from somebody else. a friend from church had passed the word along without my permission and i was afraid somebody would say something on facebook or the blog and ruin it, so dave told his parents at 16 weeks, and i told his brothers yesterday, with the rest of you. sorry, guys.
  • where did you get your dress?this is for the members of my ward. i wore this dress to church on sunday. i did not plan on wearing a maternity dress for the primary program in front of the entire congregation, but we were running late and i had to just pull something on. that was my unintentional announcement to the ward. this is also what i ended up wearing in our family pictures last week. but i did NOT wear black wellies and a black hat, thank goodness.

  • is this your last pregnancy?
ugh. don't talk to me about more pregnancies right now.

I love hearing other people's pregnancy stories and stuff. Keep it coming! You are brave to suffer alone. I CANNOT suffer alone, that's why I tell people soon I guess. And that dress is adorable, I want one now.

Hang in there!!! I HATE being pregnant. So much so that I might be done with two... Let me know how three goes and maybe I will think about it. Oh and can I take the boys for you sometime so you can rest? Or we could meet you at the park and you can sit and I will chase all of the kids.

Man, I totally hate it when people spread news without permission. Sorry it happened to you.

If I ever have another one I'd love to go all 9 months without telling anyone- and suddenly show up with a baby. Hmm, guess that would be much easier adopting.

Yay Emily! Man, the Foley's are turning out grandkids left and right! Sorry you've been so sick. Sidenote: I get super sick with all my pregnancies but Maggie's was the worst. Don't resolve yourself into thinking it's a boy just yet! Props for waiting to tell. I was like 20 weeks when we spilled the beans and it was awesome. New bed, new car, new baby-Congratulations!!!!

Questions Answered, Parts 1 & 2 answered all my questions and then some. Thanks. So excited for you two. I'm with Boquinha. Now I have to know the name under consideration. Are you sticking to a Bible names theme? Oops. Sorry. That was another question.

Wow, pregnancy tests have gotten high tech since I've used them. They write out the word "pregnant?" What happened to pink lines? Impressive!

I don't think you guys sharing that you're pregnant would've stolen their thunder. Both are exciting and different things. But that's nice of you guys to be so considerate.

I LOVE that dress. In fact, I almost bought one just like it...but for some reason did not. I bet you look great in it!

I know Stacy, I agree. I tell ya, blame it all on Dave! Lindsay and I talked yesterday and she said the same thing, that it wouldn't have bothered her at all, but that Scott probably would've done the same thing as Dave.
