i know i'm pregnant when....part I

i started this log early on. i knew i wasn't telling people 'til much much later, but i wanted to remember these things about this pregnancy, so this stuff may not apply anymore. but, here it is anyway.

i know i'm pregnant when:

  • i can tell you in days, hours, and minutes when the milk will go bad simply by its smell.
  • brushing my teeth goes from an essential daily activity to an optional one. forget flossing altogether.
  • grocery shopping goes from an annoyance to me to an annoyance to the workers (for the puke they end up cleaning up in the aisles/parking lot).
  • no attempt whatsoever is made at looking cute. i'll wear sweats and you'll like it, folks. i will attempt a shower every day, but i make no guarantees.
  • i am in bed before 10 pm. as a night owl, this kills me a little bit inside. but nights are the worst, and i will do anything to escape the illness for a little while.
  • the boys actually get to watch spongebob because i will do anything to get them away for a few minutes so i can rest.
  • one glance at a browning banana sends me over the edge. the puking will never end because now i have the image in my head and it keeps coming back, along with the retching.
  • transformers games continue despite the interruption of a run to the kitchen sink for the occasional throw-up. isaac's going, "pretend you saw this decepticon fall from the sky and you said 'whoa, what was that?' and i say 'i'm megatron, and i'm here to destroy you' and then we fight" all while i've proceeded to empty the contents of my stomach and small intestines. doesn't even phase him.
  • the real shocker: i don't want fast food. even the thought of it is disgusting. i want juice, fresh fruit, and milk all day long--and i'm not a milk drinker. oh, and a jamba or two.
  • i hate my doctor. everything about him from the ranch dressing on his lip to his freezing cold hands to the fist bump he gave me last visit. i always hate my doctor. but he's like .2 miles away and i can't bring myself to drive to my old doctor (that i now love, ironically) all the way in salt lake.
  • when my korean neighbors start cooking, i now have to leave the house completely. worse still is when she brings some over for me to try. i have to surreptitiously get it in the dumpster before the smell can further permeate my home.
  • cooking ceases. i love to cook, and i love to eat, but nothing sounds good, not even chocolate. it's slightly devastating.
(thanks to natalie* for letting me steal her "i know i'm pregnant when" idea)

Adoption is such a blessed thing.

I can't believe I ever begged, pleaded, and bargained with the Lord to allow me to be pregnant. What was I thinking? I never had morning sickness (thank heavens), but the last three and a half months of my pregnancy with Robby were purely and intensely miserable and extremely painful and I hate admitting it, but it is so true. And you want to know something? I am praying that we can't get pregnant with a third so that we can adopt again.
So if anyone ever tells you to cherish and be grateful that you can have children, you just tell them to go suck on a brown bananna.

I'm glad you wrote this all down and I'm glad that you're starting to feel better. We'll hope for smooth sailing from here on out!

But seriously, why does it have to be SOOOO bad???

Gosh! I feel your pain with the Korean cooking only my problem was with Chinese food. My bosses brought in leftovers everyday and I had to leave almost everyday during lunchtime. It was awful. I love reading about your pregnancy. Don't apologize. Hope you start feeling better soon!

Sheesh, if I ever decide I want another baby, I'll have to re-read this post. Somehow, you truly forget how bad it is after the baby arrives. I was dyin' about the Transformer part with Isaac. Kids are so dang oblivious sometimes....I guess that's a good thing? Anyway, hope you're feeling a little better and I'll hope the months pass quickly so you can get to the good part: a new baby.

oh, i have felt every single one of these things. i'm so sorry!

once my morning sickness finally went away, food wasn't appealing anymore and i wondered if i'd ever get my appetite back. well, it's back! and i've already gained back 9 of the 25 pounds i lost in my first trimester.

Thanks for documenting this wonderful time! I remember having pep talks before trying to brush my teeth in the mornings and I still lost the battle most of the time. Feel better soon, or just sleep a LOT! Do we get to find out the sex soon?! The Foley girls are on a roll!

That smell of cooking that makes you wanna puke, is so familiar! I totally hated that and I can totally relate with the "going to bed early, anything to escape 24/7 nausea" bit. I remember that with Jack. Sorry you're still so sick.
