that kid.

he's been hard for a few weeks. i've talked to his preschool teacher to see if something is going on there, and she said he's been fine....so that means it's me. we have struggled and struggled, and it's getting old. today i ran into noah's room amid screams to see isaac WAILING on his brother, like i've never seen before. before i could intervene isaac got in the hugest slap to noah's face--left a handprint and everything. i have no idea what caused it, but you better believe isaac's world fell apart after that.

one of his punishments was no tv, which is basically like killing the boy. he would rather me spank him for an hour than miss out on word girl. wednesday is also no-nap day for noah (i'll admit it's because lost is on and our vcr is broken and noah goes to bed at 7:30 when he has no naps...that's just the kind of parent i am)...so i knew we were going to need to get out of the house this afternoon. on the agenda: haircuts. they are both desperately in need, so off we trudged to dollar cuts--where a kids cut is $9. total ripoff. anywho, noah was a basket case. this was his first haircut in a chair (my mom just does it on her counter at her house) and he flipped out. it was naptime, so that was to be expected...but unexpectedly, isaac walks up to him and says, "see noah? the cape is like superman!" then runs around, shows him how its done, sits by him quietly for his haircut, talks him through it. it was amazing. noah chilled right out.

they were so good we headed off to the mall for cheese popcorn (one of our favorite treats) and a few minutes of playing on the slides. isaac was so sweet to noah, holding his hand while they ran the entire length of the mall, noah swinging his cheese popcorn, isaac swinging his popcorn ball.

we head home and as we walk in the door, a pain hit. i have no idea what it was, but something in the upper regions of my abdomen--i don't say stomach because i think it was too high to be stomach--and it knocked the wind out of me. i literally collapsed on the floor and gasped in pain. i couldn't move, it just kept getting worse and worse with every breath, and i didn't know what to do. isaac sat by me and rubbed my arm for a minute, then took noah into the other room to play so i could groan in peace.

the pain subsided.

and now they're playing together while i cook dinner (and blog, obviously).

just when i thought i couldn't deal with him for one more minute, he proved that he's still that sweet little boy somewhere inside. i love that kid.

and then he went through four pair of pants in a 5 minute period.

1st: spilled water, changed.
2nd: sat on seat where spilled water was, changed.
3rd: moved seats, other seat had some water too, changed.
4th: sat on the table, right on noah's plate of pepper steak. changed.
it must be bedtime.

You might want to get checked for gall stones. Sounds remarkably like the pains I used to get.

How did the cake turn out?

yes, i agree! i had to have my gallbladder removed too because of similar pain. and, lately my kids think punching and hitting one another is the best game ever. what's up with that? thank goodness for bedtime!

I think the real tragedy of this story is that you don't have DVR to record Lost and all other shows. What?! How can you live without it?

i KNOW jess. i know. would you like to buy me one?

we sort of do. our computer also doubles as a tv and has its own built-in dvr. the problem is, with the digital switch/non-switch, our cable is haywire and the sound doesn't record right (you have to turn it all the way up and then you can barely hear it).

Hope nothing bad comes out of that pain... My kids do the same thing all the time. Somedays I feel like I am living with dr. Jekel and mr. Hyde... one minute they are hitting and screaming, the next they are playing just fine. Jospeh tells me it is BOYS... supposedly girls have far better memories of their feuds...

It is insane how freakishly similar Isaac and Noah and Patrick and Andrew are. If Jenny stole your post and switched names it would have taken me a bit to realize it.

That being said, I've got good news and bad news for you.

The bad news- it never really changes. They are who they are.

The good news- it never really changes. They are who they are.

Although Patrick has never sat in anyone's dinner, he never has met food or drink that he didn't think might look better on the carpet.

Um, I know I might be missing the point of this post, but one word: TiVo. I can't recommend it highly enough. And you guys watch WAY more TV than we do--it's a totally justifiable expense. Totally. We love it. You guys can't live without it.

I don't know, TiVo is pretty expensive, and you can watch everything online for free now.

Depending on the deal they run, you can get a free box. Our TiVo is $8/month. And we have SUPER basic cable (like 12 channels) for about $11/month. So for under 20 bucks a month, we have all the shows we want when we want them including LOADS of PBS shows at the kids' fingertips any time of day. And we get our movies free at the library or pay a buck at Redbox. You're right--a lot are available free online now. I'm not sure how that works exactly, but I know a lot of the new stuff doesn't get posted until the next day if you miss it.
