question of the week:

what would you miss?
******

if somebody close to you--spouse, parent, etc.--were to be gone from your life somehow, doesn't matter how, what is one trivial thing would you miss? i was thinking last night that if dave died or divorced me or something, i would really miss his reach. sometimes i call him "monkey arms" because his armspan is actually longer than he is tall. it is so nice to just say, "hey dave, can you reach this for me?" because i'm short. like, really really short. sometimes to reach things on top shelves in the kitchen, i have to get a chair. that's right, a chair. stools aren't tall enough. and sometimes, chairs aren't either and i actually have to stand on the countertop. plus our chairs are heavy, so it's a pain. and in our closet? forget it. i actually need a ladder to get up there. so if dave were gone, i would miss a lot of things, but one of the trivial things i would miss is his reach. maybe i should invest in one of my own reach extenders? heh heh heh. oh wait, you guys don't know about that. in elementary school i (meaning my dad) invented a reach extender for the invention convention one year. it didn't really work but i bet i could find something like that online.

Matt makes the best Ramen ever.
I don't know how he makes it so fabulous, but it is always the best.
I can never make it like him.
So I would definately miss his Ramen.

If Andy were gone, I would miss his fish fry. OMG, that boy can cook, and his fish fry is AMAZING!

I think I would miss having James to play with the kids outside (especially in the snow) cause he loves doing it and I absolutely do not like playing in the freezing snow!

my invention was a magnetic chopstick holder.

I know what you mean about not being able to reach ANYTHING! I have that same problem, unfortunately. I would miss too many things if Aaron was gone. I would miss him playing with our kids. They adore him, and are all about him once he gets home from work. He's an amazing father!

Kent makes the best Sunny Side Up eggs ever. I massacre them every time, so I would totally miss those.
This post is a little sad, but it also got me to thinking how lucky I am to have the people in my life that I do. There are a million small things happening every day I bet I don't notice that I would probably miss the most too.

Omigosh, Emily. That's hysterical--I am ALWAYS asking Mark to reach things for me usually with the tagline "with your freakishly long arms." :P

I would (and will for the next 8 months while Sean is in Louisiana) miss him turning out the lights for me every night when I go to bed. I hate turning out the lights and walking to the bed in the dark. So I always get into bed and Sean comes in and "tucks me in" and turns out the lights. I guess I'll need to get The Clapper while he is gone?

Well-I am getting divorced. So far, I don't miss much. I do miss having that link, bond, deep feeling of connection. I miss intimacy. I miss the person he used to be. It's surreal though. It is almost like he died and in his place is this very foreign person. Mental illness does that-and it is unbelievably painful. I guess most of all I miss being married to my best friend. That part is hardest to swallow. Tied only with the kids not having their dad in their life every single day...

Em, my mom calls me "Stretch" whenever she can't reach something. Have you tried "Stretch Armstrong" with Dave yet?!

I think that I would miss Greg's sarcasm and how warm he is to cuddle up against at night.
