tulip festival 2008

my mom and i went to this year's tulip festival a few days too late. even with our freezing cold spring, somehow the tulips bloomed early, so it wasn't quite as pretty as in years past. we still had a great time, and while it was a little cold in the morning, it turned into a perfect day and it was so nice to spend some time at one of my favorite places in the world. thanksgiving point touts the highest man-made waterfalls in north america. here are me and the boys in front of one of them:nice faces, boysnoah taking a leisurely stroll...
...isaac taking a not-so-leisurely stroll:...and you can't see it, but noah's kicking (and destroying) some flowers in this picture
in the secret garden:
the first year my mom and i went to the festival, i was 8 1/2 months pregnant with isaac, and it was raining. we were the only people there. it was amazing and beautiful, and it's never been the same. especially in the secret garden. because while it has walls and two cool old doors, it's always packed. but that first year, it was just us, and it felt like our secret. it's one of the most beautiful places i've ever been.
i look forward to walking through the doors and seeing the color scheme for that year (it was orange the first time, this time it was pink), and watching my kids splash in the fountain, and checking out all the tulips...it's the best place. i never get to spend enough time there. i loved the book "the secret garden" as a kid, maybe i should read it again. in the secret garden. that would be neat.

(i used the macro setting for this one just for you, debbie)
noah checking out the fish and frog:
i have more pictures of noah for a reason. he will actually look at me, or at least in my general vicinity. isaac will not only not look at me, but he won't even stand semi-still for a picture.
he's not happy about this one
"can i please run and play mom?"
happy spring!

We went there on Saturday and it was PACKED and the wind was blowing about 25 miles and hour the whole time so James was really cranky and we were all freezing...but it was pretty none the less. The first time we went we were practically the only people there too and its so much better that way, but oh well! My friend went with us on Saturday and took about a gazillion pictures of us, but I haven't seen any of them yet. I hope our hair isn't standing straight up from the wind in all of them...

I LOVE Thanksgiving Point! That's actually where I got my bridals and our engagement pictures done. Such cute pictures of the boys!

Actually, Vivian said: Gary and I went (with Scott) to see Xango, where Lindsay works. She gave us the VIP tour. Nice. It is right at Thanksgiving Point, so I thought we might also see the Tulip Festival. I didn't know where to look for it (: Even from the freeway, I was still looking for bright spots of color, but to no avail. Maybe next year.

oh vivian, i even thought about asking if you wanted to go on saturday but i was sick, darn it! it's down by xango but then you head north again, and the gardens are lower than the freeway and walled off. bummer that you missed it.

jessica, i told my mom while we were there that i want to get my wedding dress out and take pictures there so i can have some pretty bridals!

I love tulips, so I'd ESPECIALLY love this! I've got to visit you and then we can go to the etsy fair! Maybe next year...

Great pictures!! You and Vivian and Jessica would love Hershey Gardens--it's beautiful! They have ALL KINDS of gardens--acres and acres or various kinds of gardens (rose, tulips, Japanese, children's, woodland, etc.). It's really beautiful. And there's a butterfly house, too, where you walk through and the butterflies land on you and all kinds of cool stuff like that. We love it.

jenn, are you KIDDING ME?! it's the best place ever. one of the saddest parts of moving here was having to let our membership expire. kids 3 and under are free, so i just had an individual membership to get me in free (which was $50 and paid for itself after 4 visits!). we used to go once or twice a week, to the dinosaur museum, the children's gardens, the rose gardens, everywhere. it's seriously one of my favorite places in the world.
