have you ever seen that episode of "seinfeld" where jerry's car smells really bad? he cleans it, he has it detailed, and the smell just gets worse and worse, until he finally abandons it on the side of the road with the keys inside and even a bum wouldn't steal it because of the smell? i'm about at that point with my car. it smells so bad. i do not even know how to explain the smell to you. it's overpowering and awful. it started smelling like this in the summer and we located it in the trunk--a gallon of milk had tipped on the way home from the grocery story and a little spilled out. we scrubbed the carpets, used febreze, and it seemed to get better. now this week, it's back with a vengeance. who knows what the cause is because i can't find a source (no bottles or sippies under the seats, no spilled milk anywhere) nor can i locate it to one specific area, like the trunk. if we leave the windows down it's not too bad but you can't really leave your windows down in the dead of winter. i am at a complete loss. it's undriveable. it's awful. i'm taking it today to get the carpets shampooed and if that doesn't work, i may need someone to "steal" it for me so we can get the insurance money and buy a new one.

That stinks! heh heh. Half empty sippy cups under the seat are always the culprit in our cars. One time I bought a bag of those little Clementine oranges and one rolled out on the way home and was under the seat for a very long time. I had to remove it with rubber gloves on. Good luck.
Oh man, that's the worst! Maybe it was the valet attendants B.O.! No, but really, maybe something died in the engine--like a rat or something? But, I'm not sure something like that could even really happen.
i'll steal yours if you reck mine. our radiator basically blew up and our car is so old there is no use in fixing it. so now we have to get a new car and have a car payment. ugh!
wreck by the way.
try putting bounce sheets in the trunk and under your seats
Oh no! That is THE WORST!! That always happens to us. Cam leaves his sippy cups in the car and they roll under the seat... YUCK! I hope you can figure out what is up... good luck!
thanks for the tip ellen, i'll try that....AFTER we get the smell out for good.
bizzarre idea...but my dad always used to use shaving cream (!) for stains & smells--and let me tell ya, his vehicles were always spotless & smelled great, even through kids. I laugh since it reminds me of the windex dad on 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' :P The fabric softener sheet idea is a great tip too, after the cleaning's done. Good luck!
well if you can't pinpoint the mess, how're you gonna clean it up?
clean the WHOLE car. although i cleaned isaac's entire room yesterday and it still smells funny. we're turning into the smelly family and it's killing me!
