what do you do for fun?

i know this may seem like a lame post but the other night i really just wanted to get out of the house (by myself) but i knew if i did i would either end up 1) at the mall where i would spend money, 2) at baskin robbins where i would spend money and get fat, or 3) rod works, where i would spend money and buy decorations for my house that i have no place to put or store.
so.
what do you do when you go out by yourself? have you ever gone to a movie alone? is there any way to go out on your own and have a great time?
i just had a thought, a moment of brilliant inspiration. barnes & noble! i could go browse books, maybe even pick one up to read for a few minutes, and not buy anything. brilliant.
so, what do you do when you go out alone?

I go to a movie by myself. Sometimes it's even better that way. You get to be the one to decide what you watch. There is a book store here called The Tattered Cover and they encourage you to sit and read. It's an awesome store. In the summer I like to get a drink and go to the park and read and watch people. I also like to go look at stuff at Big Lots and the Dollar store. Sometimes I find stuff sometimes I don't. But I don't spend a bunch of money at those places either.
When I was at BYU I had a date with myself once a week at the local Borders/Barnes & nobel. I could sit and read magazines, browse children's classics or discpver new music at the listening stations. And it's very quiet and makes you feel artsy.
I've never been brave enough to see a movie alone, although I've really wanted to. Normally, I go to Target and covet, uh, I mean, browse.
I like going to nurserys. I don't spend much time thinking about planting and growing, so it's kind of fun to switch gears. Just breathing in a nursery seems to do you some good, all that humidity.
The last time I was out alone I went to a movie alone. I thought it was a little weird at first, but I ended up loving it. It was a great way to unwind, and of course get to watch anything you want without having to worry about what anyone else will think. I do a lot of browsing too. But truthfully, I don't get to go out by myself all that often, so I need ideas too!
andrea i actually did that once. they build a new cactus & tropicals by my parents house so i went and walked around for a while. i'd forgotten how much i liked that! they had fountains going and there was nobody in there, so it was so peaceful. and it inspires me to garden, when i actually have a yard. thanks for the ideas people!
Organize a Girls' Night Out? Does that count? :P
Hobby Lobby. They just put one in by my house. It takes me about 2.6minutes to get there, but I feel like I'm a world away without my boys.
I have been to a movie by myself and it was surprisingly fun. You could go to the temple
carrie, there's a hobby lobby just down the street that i've never been in! i'll have to try that sometime.

Hobby Lobby is the best! But good luck not spending any money in there!! I enjoy a good pedicure when I am out and about by myself!
A movie by yourself is SO MUCH FUN. I've done it a couple of times. The temple is also a great idea.

Yes, great idea. Stay away from anywhere where you'll have the temptation to buy something, or better yet, leave your wallet home. (:
I love to go shopping and spend money, that's for sure. But if that wasn't an option, I like to go out and see things (usually involves a bit of driving). Of course I'd have to take my camera with me. (:
I enjoy being out by myself, even if it's just to go to the grocery store.
But as for FUN, I like to hang out with James on dates, hang out with my family, and scrapbook with my mom. I also enjoy any girls' night out. (a birthday party, a baby or bridal shower, or one of those parties that you get invitations for in the mail that your friends host). Good fun.
i used to go to hobby lobby in albuquerque and never thought it was that great. i wonder if that's because i was still a kid? i'll really have to check it out now!
hmmm when do i get to go out alone? Never..oh well I guess exercising..does that count? probably not. If I am by myself I'm like you em, either shop, shop and get fat, or shop for things I have no room for. I do love to window shop though and Target is always fun to do that. The temple is also a good idea. Its about an hour and a half away (Palmyra) so I would need to do some serious planning with the hubby on that one.
Wait a second. Em, you have siblings in New York?!? So you guys could come visit us AND them??
no, that's my friend alexis from college. we were roommates the year i met dave (i think she was the first one of my roommates that dave liked...he liked all 3 before me).
