A Christmas Dress

I have been in search of the perfect Christmas dress for about 7 years. Okay, it doesn't have to be a dress because every dress I've seen in the past seven years is strapless or sleeveless and this season SHORT, but I want something pretty and new (and inexpensive?) to wear to Church for Christmas. Little girls always get pretty new dresses, why can't I? It was seven years ago that I found an awesome leather skirt at Banana Republic on sale and since then, nothing has measured up. Check out this outfit at J.Crew. For some reason they won't let me copy the picture, so click here to see it (it should be a yellow skirt and red sweater). I could never pull off that color yellow with my pale legs so that's not an option (plus it's $165), but isn't it pretty? It comes in a blue that is so pretty, but who could ever find shoes to wear with this? I suppose black might work...
I think this sequined skirt from Ann Taylor is so pretty but way too fancy for the likes of me.

Why are all pretty dresses strapless? Love this white one from J.Crew:

This would be awesome if I had a waist (and it wasn't $595):

Maybe I could get this pretty Jackie cardigan and just wear an old skirt...there's an idea.

The search continues, and I'll wear the same old thing I always do and envy those cute little girls in their pretty new dresses. Maybe next year!

I agree! There's just nothing cute, modest, and affordable for us ladies to wear! It's just not fair.

I love that yellow skirt. But not with the red sweater-reminds me too much of McDonalds. All the other things you posted are so cute! Sigh...

Yup same for me, the same one for the last five or six year.
Cheers

This is my calling card or link"Whittereronautism"until blogger comments get themselves sorted out.

I hate to sound old fashion but I think jcpenny.com has some pretty cute dresses and most of them have sleeves and/or jackets. What's the "in" color this year anyway?

I think purple is the it color, right? I would recommend looking at Shabby Apple dresses. I like them all.

I was thinking shabbyapple.com too, i love their clothes!

I have 2 Shabby Apple dresses (my friend is one of the 2 girls who started the company) but I have to say I am really not impressed with the quality. Think Forever 21. And for the price- I won't be buying a dress from them again. (Some of their stuff is cute though).

I'd never heard of shabbyapple.com but they have really cute things!
Also, have you looked at Layers?
My favorite of their dresses is the Angelina in Cocoa.

VERY cute lynette. my trouble with buying stuff like this is 1)i don't want to pay shipping 2)i have to try clothes on and 3)it's a pain to return. but that dress is cute enough i may just try it out...and em i agree on the shabbyapple quality.

So, for my 3rd comment...

I hate Layers. I ordered a swimsuit and it looked like an 8 year old made it. Super poor quality, shoddy sewing job, plus it was damaged. I went thru a 2 month hassle with the stinking company before I finally got my money back. Basically no one EVER returned my calls and there must have been at least 4 times when they screwed up on their end.

*I'd rather just pay more money at someplace like J Crew or Nordstroms where I can try it one, not pay shipping, and have a great quality item with good customer service. So worth it. (And if you keep your eyes peeled you can find good deals).

ALL HAIL J.CREW!!! Seriously, they are SO awesome, no? I, too love that red sweater/yellow skirt combo (and, I might add, am equally as frustrated with their un-copy-and-pasteable photos - what's up with that?!) - that skirt is so fabulous. It's only been recently that J.CREW has actually made dresses with sleeves to speak of. But ya, their prices are so painful. Keep watching those sales, right?
Oh and I'm equally frustrated with Shabby Apple and the inability to try their stuff on - oh and their prices are way up there, too.

I am so with you on this! Its hard to find something just right that has sleeves and works on a body with no waist! If you ever find that dress, tell me about it!

What about Lands' End? They have a lifetime guarantee on their stuff, don't they?

Em, you could always do that strapless JCrew dress with a cute cardigan or cropped jacket-type thing right? That might be cute. Anyway, like the stuff you copied and pasted. Where'd you find that dress for $595? Zoikes!

nordstrom.

and i bought a strapless jcrew dress to wear the day of my wedding (with a cardigan obviously) but once i went through the temple and tried it on it didn't work at all. i would probably have to wear a shade shirt AND a cardigan and that's too much for me. plus that dress is probably a couple hundred dollars anyway.

thanks y'all for the comments and ideas!
