Halloween was pretty good this year! I don't really like Halloween but this year we got some fun costumes and embraced it all. We carved pumpkins on Sunday and Monday. We planned to do it Sunday night since Dave would be at football Monday but he got called away for a last minute presidency meeting that night so we had to do it over two nights. Jonas chose an owl, Finn chose a mummy, Zoe did a unicorn (I can't believe how awesome it turned out, Dave is the best carver!), Noah chose Jurassic World, and Isaac carved his own Pumpkin Pi. Heh. They looked so good, I loved them.
Our ward Trunk-or-Treat was on Tuesday 10/30. The Ward Council was in charge, and the primary signed up for beverages and a few games with the cub scouts. Tuesday morning the forecast was rainy and cold so at the last minute we moved it inside instead of outside. It ended up being pretty chaotic and our idea for hot chocolate didn't matter anymore, but we'd already bought all the stuff so we just made it anyway.
Noah and Zoe both refused to put on their costumes (a blow-up dinosaur and blow-up unicorn) but Jonas and Finn ran around living their best lives, I never even really saw them all night. Isaac put on his dinosaur for a while and everyone loved it. I love those costumes, they're my favorite. Zoe had dance until 6 and Dave had football so he picked her up and came late and she just stayed in her ballet clothes. They did the candy canon, a cookie walk, and trick-or-treating out in the halls. I dressed up as a witch using Zoe's hat from a few years ago.
Zoe's costume was so funny but it was an adult size and just too big for her. We're sending it back since it never got worn.
Just as we were getting ready to leave the Trunk-or-Treat Noah accidentally swallowed a jawbreaker and it got stuck in his throat. He could breathe but he was in a lot of pain. Dave was the best person to help since he knows just how it feels so I left him at the church with Dave and took everyone else home. As I got in the car Isaac asked if we could say a prayer for Noah and if he could say it. I worry a lot about my kids and their relationship with one another but I was super proud of Isaac thinking about his brother hurting and wanting to help in some way. I texted Dave about it and, miraculously, moments after Isaac said the prayer, the jawbreaker went down. I'm thankful for answered prayers, especially my kids answered prayers.
Halloween day Zoe had a class party and took veggies and her witch costume. I can't go into parties without a background check so I didn't go but she had a great time! Noah decided not to take his costume and was so sad when someone else showed up in it and everyone at the school went crazy for it. I guess he wanted the attention! Ha! That night I made mummy dogs and ghosts in the graveyard like every year. Finn ate 3, which is amazing because he doesn't eat anymore, so they must have been good.
Everyone got dressed up, and we left as soon as Dave got home from football. It was really cold and Zoe would not wear a coat so I just carried it for a while. Eventually Finn put her coat on. Jonas wasn't interested in getting down or walking so after a while I gave my jacket to Zoe and carried Jonas home. The boys were SO FUNNY in their dinosaur costumes and the whole neighborhood loved them, and some even took pictures with them. Watching Noah waddle in the T-Rex was my favorite. At one point he waddled so much his pants fell down. Ha! Thank goodness he was zipped up in his costume!
Dave brought Finn and the older boys home and then took Zoe back out for a while. It was a great night. I was relieved for it to be over and took all the decorations down the next morning and put up Thanksgiving. I'm glad my kids enjoyed it though, it makes for fun memories!
